Droplet & contact

PPE:
1. Gown
2. Face shield
3. Gloves

Duration of Precautions:
Continue precautions for 5 days after onset of illness.

Infectious Material:
Respiratory secretions

Signs & Symptoms:
Fever, cough, sore throat, rhinitis
headaches, muscle ache, fatigue, weakness

FYI:
Elderly or immunocompromised clients/ patients may not have a febrile response.

MEASLES

IMPORTANT:
Only staff immune to measles should enter room. If you are not immune to measles, but need to enter the room,  wear a fit-tested, seal-checked N95 respirator.

Mode of transmission:
Airborne

PPE:
Routine Practices recommended.

Duration of Precautions:
Continue precautions for four days after start of
rash, ad for duration of illness in immunocompromised
patients.

Infectious Material:
Respiratory secretions

Signs & Symptoms:
Fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis,
koplik spots (white spots on the inner lining of the mouth), rash

MENINGITIS- BACTERIAL

Mode of transmission:
Droplet & contact

PPE:
1. Gown
2. Face shield
3. Gloves

Infectious Material:
Respiratory secretions

Signs & Symptoms:
Fever, intense headache, nausea
Stiff neck, petechial rash, photophobia 


METHICILLIN RESISTANT STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS (MRSA)

Mode of transmission:
Contact

PPE:
1. Gown
2. Gloves

Duration of Precautions:
Continue precautions until discontinued by Infection Control.

Infectious Material:
Drainage
Secretions
Excretions

Signs & Symptoms:
Infection at body site
Asymptomatic if colonized

FYI:
MRSA bacteria likes wet and moist environments such as
the nose and the intestines. Therefore, despite it being
contact precautions, a surgical mask is recommended to protect
your facial areas, especially the nose.

MUMPS

Duration of Precautions:
Continue precautions for five days after onset of swelling.

Infectious Material:
Respiratory secretions

Signs & Symptoms:
Fever, swelling of the salivary glands
Headaches and muscle aches


NOROVIRUS

Mode of Transmission:
Contact

PPE:
1. Gown
2. Gloves

Infectious Material:
Feces, contaminated food and water, and vomitus

Signs & Symptoms:
Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting

FYI:
Norovirus is a very contagious virus.
 It is a common cause of viral gastroenteritis.
It can be found in stool even before you start feeling sick.
It affects people of all ages.
